A sport of sieboldiana ‘Elegans', you will never be disappointed in this hosta's performance. With a number of shades of green to blue green with splashes of yellow and gold on each leaf, you won't be able to take your eyes off ‘Great Expectations'.
Substantial white flowers are clustered at only 24" above the foliage.
We ship exceptionally large and fresh bare root hosta. Sometimes in the heat of late summer, the tops of these are clipped off. This promotes new growth. Shipments begin in late March and run throughout the season until late October.

One of my favs. Pair it up with Guacamole and Sum and Substance and it is absolutely gorgeous. Its and unbelievable show of color and it really makes guacamole and sum & substance shine. Throw in some Japanese painted ferns, and you have the best show in town.

Slow to establish, but worth the wait! A beautiful hosta of heavy texture. The variegation is definitely gold when touched with some morning sun. Mine has been in a half whiskey barrel for 3 years and this year covers it from edge to edge. A knock out! Beautiful with lysimachia aurea (creeping jenny) cascading out from underneath. One of my favorite large hosta.

This is a good but slow growing hosta. It does not like the hot weather in Austin, Tx though. You really have to keep it watered well for it to do well or it will go dormant.

This picture is not quite true because the light colored stripe is definitely yellow. This plant can take a lot of sun without a burn. It's growing slowly but is truly a treasure in the garden.

This is such a lovely hosta it seems unfair to note its defects. It is a very very slow grower unless it has a good dose of morning sun. Too much sun and the center fades to white. In the right spot it is very special indeed!

Hosta always receives a 10 rating in my book. Great Expectations is wonderful in the garden. It has great shape, texture and substance. It looks wonderful when paired with Broad Brim and Francis Williams and sieboldina 'Elegans' which is its parent plant. It doesn't seem to be bothered by slugs as much as some hosta and its leaves are upright and substantial and add visual interest. Try encircling the base of a flowering crabapple tree with Great Expectations or use this as a stand alone specimen surrounded by astilbe or Lady's Mantle. A must have in any garden landscape.

Well worth the price, this hosta is absolutely wonderful. The leaves are of heavy substance and are wonderfully puckered and have terrific color and variegation. Slugs don't seem to bother it. A great specimen.
