An improved variety of the long-time favorite ‘Jackmanii', with more rounded and slightly larger blooms. A very profuse bloomer with rich velvet purple 5" blooms. A vigorous grower. Belongs to pruning group three.
This plant is considered deer resistant.
We ship larger plants than most leading mailorder nurseries. Ours are two year old plants in 5 1/4" containers.

I purchased and planted this clematis about 5 years ago and last year for the first time, it had very sparse bloom on a scrawny looking plant. It is planted in an area of morning sun and afternoon partial shade. I had bugs on it one year and it just didn't do well until this year no matter what I did. I was all ready to give up on it this year when it started growing and "finally" it is covered with beautiful blooms and has draped over my back fence. It really is a nice plant but you need patience with it apparently at times as it sure took a long time to do anything in my yard. There is a beautiful one up the street from me that no one takes care of and hasn't for years. That was my main reason for buying the one I have. Right now the plant is laying on the ground among foot tall weeds in full sun. Doubt that it has received any water in more than a month and the weather for more than a month has been hot and dry. New owners are remodeling the house and letting the yard go. That plant even with so much neglect is still covered with blooms and the ground looks like a purple carpet. It is sad to see it so neglected. Hopefully it's future will be better with new owners.

Jackmanii superba is exactly that. Superb! It grows like crazy yet has thick, lush foliage and profuse flowers measuring over 5 inches across. In my mind, it is the ultimate clematis. Buy it, you won't be disappointed!

i just love this plant. it just keeps on blooming in my garden. Pruning is a snap too because I just prune it back hard. It is a must have for any fence

This is such a showy clematis and it gets better each year. It's nice to have a later bloomer like this after the earlier spring blooming clematis.
I usually get a big flush of flowers in late spring early summer (depending on how early our weather warms up) and then a few more later.

I am so pleased with the jackmanii. When I first received my clemantis in the mail it was about a foot tall. Now two months later it's almost as tall as me....and I'm 5'2. This plant is INSANE and worth the buy!!!

Prolific bloomer in my mid-atlantic garden. Three plants have been growing on a trellis on northeast side of house for 8 years. Used as a backdrop for pink and white roses. Not only does this clematis grow on the trellis, but all through the roses. Beautiful! Never a problem from the reliable "Jackmanii".

I know this is an old standard but it doesn't bloom as heavily as some of the others I have. Very pretty in color though!
