I have been growing a Will Goodwin at my city residence in Brooklyn, NY for the past ten years. Brooklyn is in zone 7. The vine is growing in a very small brick planter next to my front stoop. Most years, it makes it up the stoop rail at least ten feet with a spread of about six feet, and is covered with flowers. It has withstood scorching hot brick, and come back from serious drought stress while I was away on vacation, and only seems to do better and better, even though it shares its eight inch deep planter with an invasive crop of mint and is often insulted with tossed garbage including cigarette butts and detritus from the drug trade down the block. My only complaint is that over the years it has gradually changed from a wonderful sky blue to an equally wonderful, but not so spectacularly unusual, lavender. Perhaps because of the intense pollution it is subjected to?

This clematis has more flowers than most I've seen. Mine blooms and blooms and blooms some more. The vines outgrow the trellis and wraps itself around it again. I've had cardinals nest in the vines for several years.

You will not believe the size of this flower! Alot of my clematis' produce lots of flowers this one does not have tons of flowers but it has many and they are huge! I mean so lovely to the eye and last and last for weeks. I have it growing in between a dark purple clematis and a light purple clematis and I help them grow kind of together so I have these huge white flowers sprouting in the middle of the purples. Absolutely beautiful! All planted just a few years ago and growing to the top of my deck.

I planted 'Will Goodwin' five years ago.It is deeply veined with frilled edges and golden stamens. The blooms are 6-8 inches across, and flowers abundantly in June-September.Grow Clematis in fertile, humus rich soil in sun or partial shade, with the roots and base of the plant in shade. Every March, cut back the vine 6-8 inches. They are slow to break dormancy each spring, so be patient and don't exhume your plant before it decides to wake from its winter sleep.
