Through our sister nursery, Oakes Daylilies, we have been growing daylilies for over 20 years! Thanks to our affiliation with them, we know better than anyone how easy it is to get addicted to these beauties. In fact, it was our daylily addiction that got us started in the gardening industry in the first place! Often referred to as the "perfect perennial", daylilies come in a wide range of shapes, colors, and sizes, are unbothered by most pests and diseases, and can pretty much be grown anywhere.
Daylilies, whose scientific name is Hemerocallis and means "beauty" and "day" in Greek, got their name because they only bloom for a single day. Thankfully, there are so many flower buds on each daylily stalk—and many stalks per plant—that daylilies have been known to bloom from late spring to autumn. Some cultivars rebloom and extend the daylily season even longer; that's something not only daylily addicts love!
